think me mad, but to me, study sem> hols

avoiding the sea of ppl during study sem< empty, fruitless hols< learning new bio knowledge during study sem

i think i may have been most happy during exam break, munching on my fillet o fish during lunch, taking a break from mugging, enjoying e free feeling being in a rather empty school.

hope tis sem modules are interesting. hope they teach e latest technology and findings heh.

all e modules same as my friends, except rna world module. i taking it alone. scared. bt stubbornly went ahead and took it 8)

onli thing for rna world, it does have class presentation. hope is only to earn extra marks, i dun wanna present T_T

happy 2012! :)

i didnt realise it was new year till i saw countdown on tv. and e sound of fireworks alerted me to 12.00 am, jan 1, 2012 :)

was busy painting my house. wat a way to mark e beginning of a new year. when u do tis kinda stuff, bound to have tempers frayed. exchanged some snipes, raised my voice, but otherwise, all well end well.

my new year resolution is to not complain. i think i complain too much. shall appreciate ppl ard me more.

k, so i shall say.. year of water dragon.. hmm... dragon year... water element.. sounds... haha, i so didnt complain kaes.

pluck teeth: pain part is injection. depending on the doctor's skill, it can be medium to high, quick or slow. haha hope u are nt turned off by my description. just bear with it while e doc is injecting u. mine gt so numb tt i couldnt rinse my mouth properly. plucking looks scary, tweezer and all, but u cant feel a thing. after pluck may be some pain, i dunno. mine was not. go with supportive, soothing , helpful ppl. dun go with ppl who panic easily, they make ur fear worse.

braces: pain is after u put on e brace. cos very tight ur teeth nid time to get used to it and develop pain tolerance. initially after putting on, 1st few days is very pain, don't chew, eat porridge, can buy pain killer (panadol). i cudnt sleep well. u can choose to eat before or after u put. e pain develops only after a few hours. may not be able to sleep for e 1st night. worst is over after a few days. e pain is nt throughout, it will shift from teeth to teeth. just bear with it, tt's e price of beauty. complain abt it t ur mum n she'll tell u tt phrase. nx few weeks pain is manageable. for me, there was no more pain and discomfort for my 2nd tightening onwards, i think my nerves got used to it. btw, i went without painkillers, so i dunno if you'll have e same results if you use them.
e orthodontist will oso give u wax to cover e brace, may find them rough, but have to remove when you eat, hassle. for hygiene food bits will always get stuck in ur brace. brush teeth more thoroughly and use mouth wash. i even got a metal pick to scrap plaque out.

cost wise shld b 5k for upper and lowerbite. e 1st visit is for consultation. ask all e qns u wan, discuss all e limitations, possibilities, understand e cost structure. if u decided, den can do e teeth model and x ray. u cannot do brace on ur 1st visit i think, cos e doc nid t analyse ur teeth and wait for results t cum out. u can schedule e 2nd visit t put brace lor. i dunno if they vary much btwn different clinics. they ask u pay deposit 1st. you oso pay sort of installment for every subsequent visit to dentist. i guess better to get one near home or sch (mine is both) so easier to make it for appt :) go an experienced orthodontist, cos my school mate (frens fren) had a trainee do on her, she got inflammation in her face at e temples, which sunk in, so now she has cheekbones tt jut out.

i discovered e dust mop recently. and it rocks. dust and hairs cling to it :D

dust mop replaces my vaccum cleaner/sweep/mop. im not gng to use them anymore. when dry, its my broom cum vaccum cleaner. when wet its my mop. fast and clean and handy. xDDDD

sugar wax

if you have manly leg hair and want to remove it by waxing, can try sugar wax

shaving is much more convenient than wax.

for: diy ppl, who hate hairs, who prefer waxing,
this is my experience with sugar wax:
pros: cheap, cost is less than $5, salon wax is $30 for legs onli, ingredients all available at ntuc , long lasting, last 1,2 months, depends on how fast ur hair grow, whereas you must shave almost daily.
cons: time consuming (i can spend hours doing it.), messy, tedious (if you hate mess, go shave). may experience some skin irritation, one time usage, melts after sometime, dun keep. i find keep in fridge makes it wet, (thus useless)

pain factor: low or medium. depends on how your skill.

-if wan try out, here's a relli detailed guide.

what you need
-utensils: pot, glass container (ntuc have), buttering knife, toilet roll, cup, sieve, bowl clamp (with 3 claws), timer (handphone), plastic bag, wet cloth

optional, but useful: electric kettle (the fast type), microwave (i dunno is glass suitable for microwave??)

the pot im using a black kind steel pot, it doesnt burn as easily. i oso use it to cook porridge. if you use a silver types or e glass types, may require different timing and flame control.

-ingredients:
-1/4 cup tap water, 1/4 cup lemon juice (2 lemons, buy more in case fail), 2 cups white sugar
- 6 min high fire
-after 6 min, off the fire, let it cool. e bubble subside. you shld see big bubbles, but nt foam.
-after cooling, comes the tricky part: caramelisation. the sugar caramelises in a short window of time before it burns.
-switch to small fire, when it starts foaming, on a few (5-10) seconds, then off. scoop a small portion into a small white bowl. repeat until colour correct. (fine and foaming fast, foam has some colour). e drop of ur mix on a white surface look orange.
-ideal colour is honey colour (amber) in a glass container (i use transparent glass container), not white, not yellow , not light orange(under cook, sugar not dry enuf), not dark amber, not black (burnt, sugar not sticky or elastic enuf).

-let it cool, mebbe 15 min, pour into container.
-scoop some onto a small bowl to cool. careful nt to burn urself. how to see: not watery, not even viscuous. does not drip nor flow, but can dig.
-spread thin layer. apply dirn of hair growth. dirn matters.
-tear a square of toilet paper, smack it onto the applied area
- tearing: you can tear inch by inch (oppo dirn of hair growth). i prefer tis, cos my hair come out. some pain.
- or one whole shot (same dirn of hair growth). hair might break, rather then pulled out.

-if it gets too hard to dig, warm it up again. no nid thorough melting. just blend the melted part with unmelted part. dun put glass container directly on open fire, cos glass will crack. can choose to boil it with water in a pot.

-to wash the utensils, add water and boil them. the sugar comes off real fast. running water oso can, but very slow.

wan do eye brows can, not very pain, but that one you nid to careful, if not lasting regret hahah. wear hand band and pinch a teeny portion to paste on the area you wanna remove. like play plasticine. easier to control then use butter knife apply. if wrong, wash off sugar with water and resume. oso use tissue paper to rip it off. quick. not inch by inch like ur leg hair. oppo dirn of hair growth.

the other method is the ball and paste method. but it requires skill with ur hands and dry hands. some risk. it tends to melt on my hands very fast, and i have difficulty keeping my hands dry, i have sweaty palms. difficult to control. the wax and melt and cling to skin after a while. relli painful if u try to pull it off. have to wash off.

i might try an epilator, which is a machine with many tweezers, when im working and have e $$ to splurge. cos i dislike cooking.

studying is already online, so shopping should be online too.

like, you know, the uni posts notes and videos online ( at least for my course). for practicals, there is oso demo video available online. it is really efficient. u can just press the pause button and rewind back, any time you don't understand.

i think all the prescribed textbooks should be in e book formats too. they are so heavy and non portable. save the earth! i heard some law school is already going paperless-all the textbooks and notes are electronic, so they go to school with their ipads.

probably major bookstores are going out of business. especially with the rise of ipads. perhaps in the future paperback and hardcovers are items that you pre order and keep like a collector's item.

why no buffet category

and i have a gripe about those food sites. why is there no category for buffet! or set meal. they should have one.

i think those restaurants should have a place where they can update the site about latest offers and discounts.

besides style and price.

and perhaps restaurants could be like blogshops. list their menu and food online too.

how nice if everything is online. well, perhaps it will be, in the future.

online clothes

it wud be nice if, imagine a day when the online shopping scene has improved so much we can just visit blog shops, or even online shopping malls. like, do your browsing online first, without the need to really walk. then order the clothes online, or head down to the outlet.

it could be split into 2 modes:

browsing and search mode

there could be a integrated clothing catalogue you know. like, since it is pretty hard to describe clothing details in words, perhaps it can be done with tiny pictures. the search could be pieced together like the police face identikit. and consumers can construct parts of clothes the detailing, then send out a search for it. like you know, those tiny pictures/symbols you see in ikea catalogues.

the first stage could go into the more general details

like:

top/bottom/outer/inner

then

dress, t shirt, blouse, pants, jacket etc..

for a blouse, perhaps, the person could be allowed to choose the details

for example, click on the neck area, >> choose you want high, medium, low cut >> if lets say choose high cut>> details >> collar, turtle neck etc

>> or no details>> round neck, v neck etc.

whereas for t shirt, just choosing the prints on the tee and colour of the tee would suffice. and probably whether its round or v neck

then >> choose materials (colour/pattern)

its like creating your own avatar. i dunno, perhaps its too tedious.. but, perhaps one day, this could all be integrated, and we cut down on clothing designers, cos basically clothing is just mix and match all the details. retailers could work together with suppliers and manufacturer, designers, since they need to state the details of the clothing anyway.

the browsing mode could go by shops or prices or sales, where the viewers just browse the images of models wearing the clothes. and beside can also list descriptions at the side in tiny pictures like for the search mode. you know, like, well, v neck, round neck etc.. basically it is the reverse of search mode.

the retailers could list down the price and number of pieces left, as well as discount. the consumer could then head down to the various outlets after viewing the clothes.

ok, this is just my pipe dream cos i hate walking and trawling through the mindboggling array of clothes out there.

well, but blogshops would benefit if there was some form of organisation. there is no specific way of searching blogshops. mebbe there can at least be a way to label the pictures from blogshops so they would appear in something like google images, but specific for clothes from blogshops. then you wouldnt have to know the blog address, and you wouldn't have to click and click and enter each blogshop. some one please come up with an online program to trawl through those blogshops.

and thatll be a snub to those greedy landlords who charge a fortune to rent a shopspace. i mean, its crazy, the rent price. singapore property (hdb flats!!!) is soooooooooooo expensive. tt's why ppl wan migrate la.

and since there are so many online shops, instead of blogs, someone might wanna come up with online websites dedicated to online shops. well, they could be named sLogs, or some thing like that. like some virtual shopping centre. like a facebook. this one would probably be called ShopBook, or BluePages, haha. the online shopping scene is so disorganised. someone should come up with an organised format. no, it would not be like amazon. we could do with a search function, but probably navigate shop by shop. and of course like google, the money to operate this website would come from, what else, advertisements! there would be a space for each shop page that is dedicated to advertisement, controlled by the website owner, and the pricing for the ad would be according to how much traffic the shop has.

not only for clothing, but for food also. like my cousin wants to operate an online cupcake shop. well, i guess she would benefit if there was some online shopping mall.

it might be a while before clothes can go truly online.

but sales things like computer, camera, handphone, television and car sales can truly go online. cos their specifications are rather easy to list down and pretty much the same across board. like how many gigabytes, speed, horse power, warrenty etc etc. for handphone, mebbe more difficult, cos you wanna touch and meddle with it, but can post online video demos on using the product. can link to forums where they critique the product. cos these tend to be more expensive, so online research before buying is more common.
