15/09/2020 - screen time makes me unhappy

screen time makes me unhappy

went to watch a movie yesterday. movie - tenet. it was unsatisfying. nothing new. watching people go round in circles. movie - inception, similar but was better. by the way.

why is dune due in december so far away. *sets a reminder in Keep*
"fear is the mind killer" - wendy rhoades, billions.
director directed blade runner 2049, one of the best sets i have seen. quiet movie.

slept like shit last night. wonder why.
woke up at ?? time today to an empty house and then

1130am made some eggs and bread and aglio olio for lunch. realised we ran out of mushrooms. watched netflix - the social dilemma on screen addiction. the usual shit. nothing new. 1 hour felt like 2 hours. not a fan of dooms day news.

0200pm i'm quite speedy so i cooked and cleaned and dishwashed after the flick ended. watered the plants.

reflection on the flick-
maybe gen Z has a pretty bad case of phone addiction. my gen z cousin fought with his parents when they tried to control his phone use.

i realised my unhealthy relationship with whatsapp in 2014 and after that i stopped using it much. also interactions with friends from school decreased and i left my old workplace. now its normal to not use whatsapp much. i still have my facebook addiction. it serves as a newsfeed and a article feed.

guess i could go use google news and flipboard but those are inferior. flipboard is actually good at recommending knowledge website but its very manual to use. i dont like the web interface either.

some personal tips-
- turn off all phone notifications - except eg missed calls and smses. only the bare minimum
- turn off the app notifications so you dont see so many in the browser
- turn off the notifications landing in your inbox from facebook
- aware of how bad you feel after screen time - like you just gave your mind away for the length of precious time
-aware of how social media and chat apps make you feel anxious - main reason why they are in m
- use locking apps and chrome extensions to ban your use
- if you are not convinced you are an addict, check your screen usage - phone setting, do a search. you will be shocked. or else, clock your time spent on work - you can use  tracker extension- and subtract it from your daily waking hours and meal times.
- if you are an working adult, do something to organised your email - set rules and auto tags. i hate folders btw
- identify and avoid what causes you to fail - eg morning watched youtube before work - youtube music videos highly addictive rabbit hole, lying on bed - causes me to take out my phone and youtube binge
- learn to stick to your targets and don't miss a day. don't create too many - maybe one a day. i use do it tomorrow app on browser and mobile - it lets me focus on today and tomorrow.

have less addictive phone habits. to procrastinate, watch motivation or procrastination videos. watch tedx, school of life to fall asleep. read motivation books. do a high intensity workout for 5 minutes. make sure you warmed up enough to prevent aches and injuries. do it every day.

read a book before bed. it helps you sleep on time. seriously. no apps before bed. books are very low stimulation and very sleep inducing. plus they force you to focus and it quiets your mind.

anyway, don't you think people glued to their phones look dumb and lazy? like some addict that does nothing to help out.

plans for tomorrow-
mum will be out tues to wed, so maybe i should plan some day trips. should i visit changi jewel tomorrow? i been wanting to try out arabica coffee.
